Guidelines
- Writing an original content:
Your articles should be original, human-generated text. You may use images generated by AI tools. When submitting your content, please ensure it is listed under the relevant category and the most appropriate tags are given. There are four main formats of research cover stories: (1) Standard article, (2) Gallery format (3) Podcast, and (4) Video article. Also choose the best-suited type of your post (e.g., Perspective, Commentary, Sponsored’). If you’re having trouble deciding which type your post fits into, you may leave a comment at the end of the post for the section editor. If you have any further questions regarding the style of your article, or which category it might suit, please do not hesitate to contact editor@thescience.dev.
Your articles will be peer-reviewed. We will try to match the right reviewer based on the categories and the content of the post. The final decision of the section editor or the chief editor will be final and binding. Minor edits will be done by our editorial team. Posts and comments that violate the terms and conditions and/or these guidelines will be removed. - Avoid spam, sales, promotions, and political agenda
The Science Dev values authentic knowledge sharing and connection between researchers. Focus on demonstrating your ideas and insights within the scientific world – let your expertise shine! While you're free to link relevant external content as a way of expanding discussion, please avoid direct promotion of companies, products, or services. If you're interested in exploring promotional opportunities, please contact us directly to discuss advertising and sponsorship options.
Please don’t post inappropriate links. You may cite links to other research journals, university websites, and reputed news media. We have enterprise-level cloud security that detects malicious links, images, and other content. Such content will never be published and may lead to a user ban. - Respect Intellectual Property: Share Responsibly
The Science Dev values the careful creation and ownership of ideas. Before uploading images, videos, audio content, or text, ensure you have the necessary rights to share the material. Distributing copyrighted work without permission can violate intellectual property laws and may lead to content removal. Materials already published in the research journals should be given proper attribution. - Maintain Your Research Identity
The Science Dev thrives on genuine connections between researchers. Avoid impersonating others or infringing on their privacy. Remember, this is a public space where others may see your information. Ensure your profile accurately reflects you as an individual researcher, not a business entity. Accounts misrepresenting individuals or primarily representing businesses or organizations will be removed.
Build a Complete Profile, Enhance Your Connections
We encourage you to fully complete and maintain your profile. The more details you provide, the easier it is for others to identify your research interests and engage with you. This fosters collaboration and a greater sense of belonging in the scientific community! - Maintaining a Respectful Environment for Scientific Exchange
The Science Dev community values open and rigorous discussion, free from harmful or unproductive rhetoric. Please ensure your contributions steer clear of the following:
- Defamation: Avoid making false or misleading statements that could damage someone's reputation.
- Abuse and Threats: Insults, threats, or harassment have no place in scientific exchange.
- Obscenity and Discrimination: Content that is sexually explicit, hateful, or discriminatory on the basis of race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, etc. will not be tolerated.
Content violating these guidelines will be removed.
- Your Contributions Have a Wide Reach
The Science Dev is a public platform. The content you post may be accessible to anyone online. Remember, you are responsible for the content you share.
Maintain Professionalism: Avoid language that is profane, crude, or sexually explicit. Focus on constructive scientific communication. - Transparency in Research
If your content has potential conflicts of interest (financial, professional, etc.), please disclose those clearly. Maintaining open and ethical practices is crucial at The Science Dev. - Prioritizing Original Content (with Options for Further Dissemination)
To keep The Science Dev fresh, we primarily focus on original content. However, we understand the value of sharing your insights more broadly. If you wish to republish a blog post from elsewhere:
Acknowledge the Source: Clearly indicate the original publication on The Science Dev by including a statement like: "This story was originally shared on [Website Name]: read it here - [hyperlink]" - Citing Sources and Responsible Linking
- Give Credit Where Due: Accurately attribute all quotes and paraphrased ideas to their original sources. Feel free to include in-text citations or a brief bibliography for clarity and to promote further discovery.
- Provide Context for Links: When sharing links, offer a brief description of what readers can expect. This helps users navigate content effectively and avoids vague phrases like "click here."
- Ensure Relevance and Adherence to Guidelines: Only share links to websites that align with our Website Terms of Use and are directly relevant to your contribution. If you have any doubts about a website's suitability, consider checking with the site owners.
- Making Your Research Accessible to All
The Science Dev thrives on the open exchange of knowledge. Consider how members with diverse backgrounds and needs might interact with your contributions. Here are some ways to improve accessibility:
- Clarity is Key: Present your ideas with clear, understandable language. Use headers to organize your writing, avoid overly-specialized jargon, and provide captions for images and videos.
- Image Descriptions: Add alt-text that accurately describes the visual content of any images you include. This aids those with visual impairments.
- A Welcoming Place: Remember, The Science Dev brings together researchers with a wide range of experiences. The more engaging and accessible your writing, the broader its potential impact!
- Polish Your Writing for Maximum Impact
Thorough proofreading and editing make your research easier to understand and more attractive to a wider audience. Here is how we can help:
- Questions? We're here! The Science Dev team is happy to offer guidance on finding the right tone and using audience-appropriate language.
- Sharing Knowledge Across Borders: We welcome posts written primarily in English to ensure accessibility to our international community. If you'd like to include content in other languages, please reach out – we'll gladly assist with translation requests!
- Aim for Impactful Brevity
While there's flexibility for longer posts when necessary, we suggest targeting approximately 1000 words for your research story. This length promotes focused communication of your findings. Excessively short posts (only a paragraph or two) may lack essential context and will be returned. - Help Us Maintain a Respectful Research Environment
If you encounter a post that violates our guidelines or Website Terms of Use, please report it. This applies specifically to harmful content – not simply research you disagree with.
- Moderation: The Science Dev team reserves the right to remove content deemed unsuitable or that has been reported as problematic. The post's author will be notified. Please do not resubmit the removed content.
- Accountability: Repeated violations of our guidelines or Terms and Conditions may result in the suspension or removal of a user's account.
- Confidentiality and Pre-Publication Research
The Science Dev values the integrity of the peer-review process. When discussing research that's been submitted to a research journal, please ensure the following:
- Maintain Confidentiality: Do not share details about a manuscript or its review process unless those details are already public information released by the journal.
- Share Responsibly: Blog posts summarizing research from a submitted manuscript should only be posted after the manuscript has been officially published in the journal. Premature sharing may violate publication agreements.
- Don't be evil
Please avoid:- Defamation: Avoid making false or misleading statements that could damage someone's reputation.
